		<abstract>This work describes the implementation of a flexible 2-D binary vision system  suitable for industrial applications in moderately restricted environments -, which is capable of choosing the best strategy for the recognition and the localization of objects. Our system incorporates two techniques for the representation of shape: one based on boundaries, and the other based on morphological skeletons and, from an analysis of the input images, it is able to decide which representation is best for each object depicted. The advantages obtained with the conjugation of those two representation strategies have been corroborated by various experiments, both with synthetic and with real imagery.</abstract>
